The Hauraki Gulf has come alive once more with dolphins, whales and gannets feasting on baitfish — all making for some spectacular fishing.
This is the time of year when everything in the gulf is feeding. Below the surface, snapper and kingfish are hunting the same baitfish from below. Above, gannets are bombing them. In the middle, dolphins and the occasional Bryde’s whale are putting on a show.
If you’ve never seen a Hauraki Gulf workup, it’s worth a charter just for the spectacle — the fishing is the bonus.
